Code to zero, Ken Follett, Dutton, 2000.
Set during the cold war, Follett tells the story of Dr. Claude Lucas who has mysteriously lost his memory and appears to homeless. Luke investigates this mystery, picking up clues here and there. As he notices he is being followed he steps up his efforts to discover the truth and what his pursuers are trying to hide. The story switches back and forth between Luke's present and his past, revealing to the reader some of his relationships and history. The book was easy to read and is highly recommended to any fan of espionage, mystery or even light historical fiction.

Dead in the water, Stuart Woods, Harper Collins, 1997.
Stone Barrington goes to a tropical island for a vacation to find out that his girlfriend, to whom he was going to propose, has decided to marry someone else. Meanwhile, Stone finds himself involved with a murder of a famous author. Stone decides to defend the suspect, the widow, and along with an unusual assortment of island characters (including a senile barrister) builds a defense to save his client from the gallows. Typical Woods--thrilling and unpredictable.

Set in the south, a police chief, new to the area and trying to build a reputation, needs to investigate the murder of a local citizen, strange computer virus infecting the police department computers, and several other strange happenings throughout the town. A history of the efforts to buld a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. This work of nonfiction introduces the reader to many of the men that made the railroad possible, from Lincoln, to Stanford, to the chinese laborers. An excellent history of the railroad. All is well, Gerald N Lund, Bookcraft, 1998.
The last in the Work and the Glory series, this provides the conclusion to the Steed family. We find out if all the family was able to make it to Salt Lake City, be it by boat, handcart, wagon, or walking. A fine conclusion that leaves you wanting to read more about the family and how they fared in the valley.

Movie & Video Reviews
Here are a few of the movies and videos I have recently seen. My ratings are on a scale of 5, 5 being the best.

starstarstarThe Kid, Bruce Willis, Spenser Breslin, Lily Tomlin
Willis plays a image consultant who suddenly confronts himself as a 8 year old. Willis now has to figure out what he needs to do to deal with this unknown event of his past. The film is okay, not spectacular.
